About the Artist

In 2015 Sam Ballet graduated at the School of Arts in Ghent. After his studies in painting he decided to go back to his roots, which was drawing. 

Armed with colored pencil and paper, Sam explores the boundaries between dream and reality. His small and detailed drawings create an intimate relationship between the work and the viewer.

You can almost see his drawings as film stills. They are snapshots of places where there is a certain sense of sadness or discomfort.

A person or portrait rarely appear in the work. The viewer can walk into the spaces and become, as it were, the character himself. A character who is left with many questions, because Sam does not provide answers in his drawings. He lets the viewers make up their own story.
