About the Artist

Luis Guzman studied Fine Arts, graduating with honors, from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in his hometown Bogotá. He then completed a Master's degree in Contemporary Art at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and finally a Master's degree in Painting at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre in Brussels, the latter with the mention of "Grande Distinction" and the “Coup de Cœur des Amis de La Cambre” award.

He began his artistic career in the end of the 90s, with group exhibitions in different art contests and salons in his country. Since he moved to Europe a decade later, he has shown his work in group and solo exhibitions in Spain, Cyprus, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxemburg and the United States.

Since 2012, he lives in Brussels, where he also teaches drawing and painting in an Academy of Fine Arts.

Luis Guzman's work evokes a universe in which time seems suspended. His compositions are familiar and enigmatic at the same time. The human presence, always discreet, activates our curiosity and we can follow its trail even when it does not appear on the scene. His paintings are delicious mysteries, delicate silences, which take a lot from the classical art of the 15th century, but also from painters like Rousseau, Magritte or Delvaux. The scale or perspective is frequently altered but the stillness of his scenes maintains the solemnity. His works are balanced between the playful and the symbolic, the mystical and the aesthetic, the banal and the sacred. Like the facets of a prism, these perspectives seek to condense different sources of light and unite them into a single beam.
