About the Artist
Mathieu Bonardet studied Fine Arts studies (drawing) at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts of Paris (DNSAP – Master Degree) and a semester (exchange program) in the MFA program of Hunter College of New York. Winner and finalist of numerous prizes, his works are present in public collections and foundations such as the Beau-Arts de Paris, the François Schneider Foundation, Frac Normandie, artkunstarte. His work has been exhibited widely in France and also in Germany and Spain.
His body of work leads draftsmanship beyond the limits defined by the space of a sheet of paper: his practice initially brought him to film or photograph actions (notably in the photographic series and video Ligne(s), 2011 which was featured on the cover of ROVEN magazine in 2014, then exhibited at the König Galerie in Berlin in 2017, or in the selection of Drawing Now in 2019) before directing his attention to volume. His work currently oscillates between drawing and sculpture, which feed off each other — like a conversation between graphite and steel.
