About the Artist

Natacha Mercier graduated in 1998 from the National School of Fine Arts (DNAP) in Valenciennes and in 2000, she obtains a Final Diploma (DNSEP) from the National Superior School of Fine Arts, Bourges (F). She is registered at Maison des Artistes.

Natacha Mercier is a painter, photographer, video artist and performer.

One of her favourite atmospheres is night and darkness. Night, because life unfolds here in a secret and specific way. Black, because this colour has the power, through contrast and darkness, and also through the absorption of the eye, to offer another vision of things, one that is profound and dense. Part of Natacha Mercier's pictorial work, developed from found photographs or famous paintings from the history of art, is in this respect a passionate research into the powers of the vision-limit. Through a skilful and highly personal process of successive reloads and erasures, the artist takes his primary image towards the dark, the nocturnal effect, by inverting the cycle of light’.

PUBLIC SPACE

Installation of ten visual prototypes from March 2024 to March 2025, on the platforms of the Porte de Hal Brussels metro station (line 2-6).

This artistic project, in collaboration with Bruxelles Mobilité and the Stib, aimed to work with night workers, highlighting the often forgotten reality, challenges and experiences of these individuals.

Natacha wanted to make this invisible world visible to the general public, offering well-deserved recognition to these often little-known professions.

An installation co-produced by Bruxelles Mobilité and Stib.
